Flight Recall FAQ

What is Flight Recall?

Flight Recall is a macOS app for browsing, searching, and replaying FPV recordings. Add folders from your Mac, an attached drive, or a network drive mounted in Finder. The library shows thumbnails, dates, video details, and any AI results or edits you add.

Do I have to upload my whole FPV archive?

No. Set Analysis to None and add the folder. Flight Recall reads the files in place and leaves the originals on that drive. AI analysis and Copy to iCloud are separate actions that you start yourself.

Can Flight Recall scan attached disks and home-network drives?

Yes. Mount the drive in Finder, then select its folder in Add Videos. Keep the drive connected when you want to play the original file. If that drive is offline, Flight Recall can play a completed iCloud copy instead.

How can I find an old flight?

Use the search box and filters. You can filter by maneuver, map location, date, description, detected object, quad name, VTX type, and other saved details. Select a timeline event to jump to that point in the video.

How does Flight Recall match a video to a location?

Flight Recall can set a video's location in three ways. You can mark it on the map. Recordings made around the same time can use that location through Location continuity. With Suggest from anchors, AI compares the video with recordings whose locations you already confirmed.

How are OSD drone names matched to names I choose?

Flight Recall reads drone names from the recording's OSD or its OSD text file. Each result appears as a Detected name. In Tools > Manage Drone Names, group different readings for the same quad under one name you choose. Filters then use your chosen name. Auto-Group can use AI to create likely groups, which you can change.

What does AI analysis add, and what can I edit?

AI analysis can add a short description, maneuvers, objects, OSD readings, and timestamped events. You can correct or delete an event, change its time, rename a quad, pin a location, and add your own rules. Saved rules are used on later analysis.

What does AI Coach do?

AI Coach reviews the examples you select for one maneuver. You choose which clips to send before analysis. It returns a score, strengths, repeated mistakes, notes for individual clips, and practice suggestions. Previous reports stay available so you can compare later attempts.

Can I add videos without using AI?

Yes. In Add Videos, set Analysis to None before selecting a video or folder. Flight Recall adds the files with their source details and no timeline events. You can analyze them later.

What gets sent for AI analysis?

With Analysis set to None, nothing is sent. With Local, Flight Recall sends visual samples from the video to the Gemini or TwelveLabs account you configured. Reanalyze sends them again. Hosted is not publicly available yet; when enabled, it uploads the selected video to Flight Recall's service. Audio is not used for event detection.

How does iCloud access work?

Click Copy to iCloud on a scanned video. Flight Recall copies that file to your iCloud Drive folder. It does not copy the rest of the library, and it does not remove or replace the original. Leave the Mac app running until the queue finishes. The iPhone app is still in development.

What do I need to run Flight Recall?

You need a Mac. Install ffmpeg and ffprobe with brew install ffmpeg for Local analysis and local TS or AVI conversion. Add a Gemini or TwelveLabs key in Settings if you want Local AI. Analysis: None works without an API key.

Are the macOS downloads signed and notarized?

Yes. The zip on the download page contains a Developer ID-signed and notarized macOS app.
